FGM PREVALENCE RATE

The estimated prevalence of FGM in girls and women (15-49 years) is 5% (WHO 1998).

The DRC government to date has not passed legislation that specifically prohibits the practice of FGM; however articles 46-48 of the penal code on intentional bodily injury could be applied to FGM (No Peace Without Justice; UNHCR).
